Indeed, just as we had announced, the day arrived on 25 July, and now we share with you the events that took place at our facilities and at the Old Los Llanos winery, where the lunch and awards ceremony were held.
At 11:30 in the morning, the visit began at glm 1, where attendees could appreciate not only the cork from the 2025 campaign, stacked and in perfect resting condition (where it should remain between 10 and 14 months). Since it was a working day, the morning shift was in operation so that the visitors could fully see all the work carried out at this time of year. Our technical director Juan Amador explained all the processes in glm1, glm3, and glm2.
After the factory visit, the news of the day awaited us. A plaque was unveiled to commemorate this historic event. For the first time in the history of our city, we witnessed the debarking of a cork oak tree planted 27 years ago.
In the following speeches, the mayor and Paco González (CEO of the company) explained to the attendees the process to follow from the planting of the tree until, after 50 years, the raw material needed to produce the first cork stoppers for wine bottling can be obtained.
This debarking was masterfully performed by the Extremaduran advisor Secundino Sánchez and our retired employee Serafín Aparicio.
Later, at the Old Los Llanos winery, in an unbeatable setting, with the attendance of the guests and all company staff, the recognitions and awards were given to the so-called “cork harvesters” and to the employees who this year participated in the control and selection of cork in the field.
After a wonderful lunch, the journalist and director of the event, Ángel López, invited anyone who wished to speak to share their opinions about the day’s events or about the company itself.
Following these remarks, the attendees proposed to the company’s management that, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of glm’s founding (29 July 2026), there could be another gathering similar to this Great Day.
