On August 22, we commented on a serious incident in this year’s cork campaign, caused by breach of the cork purchase contract that should have been harvested in June.
As we promised in August, we did everything in our power to obtain quality cork for our piles 4, 5 and 10.
Finally, and after more than 20 contacts, we had 3 nearby options, with quantity and quality similar to the cork from the farm that we did not have.
The first, in the end, was sold to the buyer of the last cork harvest, at the same price that we offered.
The second, we lost it in a state auction, where bidding with 9 companies we came in second place, even though we had offered € 6.28 kg, (being the starting price of € 3).
And, in the third we got the award for our effort. We contracted a batch in the Sierra de Aracena, similar to the failed cork in June and in a somewhat higher quantity than what we would have obtained then.
We were able to start our October holidays, with the satisfaction that the last of the 12 trucks that made up this batch, was left in glm 1. Now, on the first day of work, after the vacations, we can see the 3 piles which were deserted in August, with good cork that will allow us to manufacture excellent stoppers in 2024.
In short, we can say that, in the face of any crisis situation in our sector, we will be able to guarantee our customers their 2023 and 2024 corks, and others who consider the time has come to entrust us with the possibility of corking some of their bottles.
